Historical Monument of Abuyog

Abuyog derived it name from the Spaniards. When the Spaniards first came ashore to Abuyog, they noticed a swarm of bees nearby. However, when one Spaniard asked “llama del pueblo?” An Abuyognon answered, “Buyog”. The Spaniard, thinking it was the name of the community then said, “Ahhh.. Buyog”.Hence, the name of Abuyog.Recently, the local government unit decided to place a landmark that will immortalize the history of the town. Upon this decision, a landmark depicting the Spaniards who gave the town its name was constructed. The monument is now located between the municipal hall of Abuyog and the beach of Abuyog.
