Longboard – Sports

The Organizers of the Previous Bee Hill Challenge – Waray Longboards

Longboarding is a combination of surfing and snowboarding. Its only difference is that it is neither done on water or on snow. Instead, it is done while descending a hill. And, whether you are longboarding for a cruise or for a downhill race, there is no escaping the fact that this is an adrenaline-rush-exciting kind of sport.

Last year, Abuyog embraced its arms to this new sport.  And since Abuyog is blessed with scenic views, landscapes and winding roads that are suited for downhill longboarding, the Waray Longboards organization was only more than happy to organize the “Bee Hill Longboarding Competition” event in Abuyog.

With the Buyugan Festival just a few months’ away, professional and amateur longboarders need to get their longboards ready for that once-a-year adrenaline rush.

The Bee Hill Downhill Challenge coincides with the town’s celebration of Abuyugan Festival. Abuyugan Festival is an annual festival held on the 29th of August in Abuyog Leyte, Philippines. The festival features a street parade with participants dress like a “buyog” (bee) costumes dancing to the rhythm of drums and trumpets. The festival depict the origin of the town’s name in a well-choreographed dance which focus on the appearance and movement of a bee. It is consider one of the best festival of the Philippines and always a participant in Pintados Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban City and the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City.
